Mozilla plans to launch a paid version of Firefox

The Mozilla Foundation plans to launch a paid version of the famous Firefox (Firefox) during the fall of 2019.

In an interview with T3N, Mozilla CEO Chris Crud said the company aims to launch a new version of the browser next October, with advanced features such as VPN, Secure cloud storage.

The company had already started testing VPN service last October in collaboration with the ProtonVPN service for a monthly subscription of $ 10.

Now the company is considering a free VPN service with limited data, with paid subscription to make it open. "Mozilla does not plan to charge for the current free features, but it will offer a monthly subscription to Firefox that offers many advanced features," he said.

No refund has been disclosed to the German site T3N on the fees that will be imposed by Mozilla on the paid version of Firefox.

Firefox is one of the oldest existing web browsers. It was first launched in 2002, just before the launch of Google's Chrome browser by about 6 years. However, the latter was able to rely on Google's power to acquire the largest share of the browser market .

According to the site StatCounter, Chrome browser acquired during the month of May last about 62.7% of the browser market, while Firefox, does not exceed its current share 5.07%.

It is believed that Mozilla's desire to open up a new field of material income is understandable. At present, more than 90% of the company's revenue comes from search engine deals with companies including Google and Yandex. The rest of the content is related to the current browser features, such as Pocket.
